Since the beginning of the burn to CD/DVD trend there has been a huge issue of how companies can conquer this and remain profitable. Vivid Video is among the first to accept this trend and market for it, as described at, http://www.wired.com/news/columns/0,70547-0.html?tw=wn_index_6. Starting on April 3, 2006 they will launch a new service called Burn to DVD. The program will allow consumers to burn a movie, only once, to a DVD after the purchase. By doing this Vivid is riding the trend and in fact obtaining the first mover advantage over their competition, which I believe is how they will be able to maintain their market share and continue to be profitable.
As discussed throughout the course of the semester Porn is a large industry with many opportunities, but in order to stay on top and be a market winner you must always continue to innovate. Vivid is an excellent example of this. By offering a one-time download over the internet they are eliminating huge production costs throughout the company. BY offering the product online there is virtually no costs, such as, jewel cases, jewel art, store space, wrapping, ect. Vivid is clearly staying one step ahead of the entire industry and utilizing trends that other companies are considering to be harmful.
Being such a luctrive business the porn industry is hard to maintain a positive profit in unless you are ahead of the competition. Vivid Video is clearly ahead of the competition and proving that they have the necessary skills to maintain their current market share when other companies are continuing to lose market share
